About
Picture the Suffolk-Essex border 30 years from now. Productive farmland and rich habitats are woven together with over 100 miles of wild, green veins. The landscape is buzzing with life – ponds glisten in field corners whilst the calls of turtle doves and nightingales can be heard once again. Farms are thriving, locals are enjoying wild green spaces, and everything down at the pub is locally produced.

Connecting Constable & Gainsborough Country (CCGC) aims to recover, restore and reconnect our landscape. It is a collaboration between 64 farmers and landowners from the Suffolk Wool Towns and Stour Valley Farm Clusters.
United by a shared vision, our large-scale, long term project focusses on three key goals:
- Farming for the future
- Restoring key habitats
- Connecting habitats with green veins

Funded by Defra’s Landscape Recovery scheme, CCGC supports both farming and nature across South Suffolk and North Essex. By connecting habitat corridors across farmland, managing woodland sustainably and addressing deer overpopulation, we hope to see flagship species like the hazel dormouse, turtle dove and nightingale recover and return to our much-loved landscape.
We’re currently in a two-year development phase, funded by Natural England. During this time, Suffolk Wildlife Trust is supporting our farmers to develop detailed plans and proposals aimed at creating a landscape where farming and nature can thrive together.
